Learn how to best control your stress during Stress Awareness Month.
Everyone experiences stress from time to time. And there are unfortunately some people that feel it more than others. It can be a real joy-killer, and if left unchecked it can lead to some major, real-life health issues that range anywhere from anxiety to severe depression, and from headaches to life-threatening heart attacks. It is safe to say that stress is more than just a mild annoyance. Here are a few ways that you can combat stress and live a more relaxed (and healthy) life.
Take a Deep Breath
When it comes to keeping calm, deep breathing can help significantly. When you take a deep breath, you allow more oxygen into your body, and you slow your breath in the process. Your heart rate also slows, and you’re able to feel calmer.
Physical exercise helps you release pent-up stressful energy. When you’re feeling stressed, channel it into exercise. Whether it’s running, biking, swimming, or even walking, engage in an activity that you enjoy. It helps to release chemicals in the brain that help you de-stress.
When it comes to helping combat stress, adopting a more positive outlook on life can help you feel better. Strive to be more optimistic so that you have the tools that you need to ward off stress.
Many of us carry stress in our muscles. Help to relieve some of that stress by stretching. That way you can relieve tension and live a more stress-free life.
Laughter truly can be the best medicine. When you laugh, your body releases endorphins which help to alleviate tension. Whether you choose to get together with friends or watch a funny show, schedule more time to laugh and enjoy life!
