Attract millennial employees and retain top talent.
In case you hadn’t noticed, there has been something of an evolution in the workplace over the course of the last decade. The millennial share of the workplace is growing quickly, with more than one in three American workers being of the millennial generation. While these workers have a reputation for jumping from one job to the next, their desire, enthusiasm, and knowledge of technology make them great employees.
Consider the following tactics for attracting – and retaining – millennial employees.
Ditch the 9-to-5 grind. Millenials are more productive and efficient in flexible environments, which allow them freedom to create and innovate their own terms. They also value work-life balance more than any other generation before them. Because of this, it’s a good reason to eliminate strict scheduling that could hinder their work productivity and even deter them from the job itself.
Improve sustainability. If there’s one thing that millennials are, it’s informed. This makes them staunch advocates for human and environmental protection. Be sure to include eco-friendly activities and habits into your work office, such as recycling materials, using eco-friendly light bulbs, and installing repurposed office furniture.
Acknowledge your employees. Millennials crave feedback. This is the information they use to know where they need to grow and how they can succeed. Provide daily or weekly informal input and it’s likely that you’ll see their motivation soar. Be sure to note a job well done as it happens instead of at the next team weekly meeting. Recognition is entirely free – so do more of it!
