Common Springtime Pet Dangers to Be Aware Of

Hazards to look out for this spring.

The bright and sunny days of spring are ahead! Like most pet owners, you may be taking your dog out for longer walks or letting your cat out for some fresh air. While spring is a great time for all, it does come with seasonal dangers that pet owners should know about – and avoid. To keep your pet healthy and happy through spring, take note of these hazards for cats and dogs.

Chocolate – Chocolate contains a stimulant called theobromine that is poisonous to pets. The amount of theobromine differs depending on the type of chocolate, with dark chocolate and baking chocolate containing the most. Be sure to keep all chocolate treats away from pets.

Raisins – This little dried fruit can cause a lot of issues if ingested by pets. Grapes, raisins, currants, and sultanas can cause kidney failure in dogs. There is no safe dose of grapes and raisins, so ensure those springtime treats are placed out of reach of pets.

Spring flowers – A home is certainly brightened up when incorporating vivid tulips or daffodils. Yet, these flowers are not well-liked by our four-legged friends. Daffodils can be extremely toxic to pets, particularly the bulbs. Crocuses and tulips are considered less toxic, but if your pet has eaten them, consult your vet. To keep your pet healthy, we recommend only using pet-friendly plants inside the house.
