Keep your car in good working condition this winter by breaking these bad habits.
The winter season can be especially harsh on a vehicle. From freezing temperatures to slick road surfaces and driving rain, it’s important to take care on the roads. Don’t exacerbate wear and tear by sticking to bad car maintenance habits. This fall and winter, be aware and break these bad car habits.
Using the wrong tires
If you live where snow is possible, it’s especially important to ensure that your tires are suitable for wintery terrain. Switch out your summer tires for winter ones before the snow arrives. They offer better traction in poor driving conditions. If your tires are worn out or damaged, it’s worth getting a new set before winter.
Not washing the car
It can be tempting to go without washing your car in the winter, especially when there is rain. However, the buildup of grime on the vehicle could oxidize and create rust. Get rid of the salt, dirt, and other debris before it causes real damage.
Running out of gas
Winter can be unpredictable at times. Don’t risk getting caught on the side of the road in the freezing temperatures. When the gas tank is running low, the moisture could freeze and crystallize, causing damage to your car’s gas line. Keep at least half a tank of gas at all times.
